Confession from a teacher

Alone it will never be complete, there will always be something missing

Dear Parent, it is needless for me to tell you how much we appreciate the trust you put in us year after year from when your offspring is 3 years old to HELP YOU, mom and dad, bring them up, make them to be exemplary citizen, conqueror.

Understand me well when I say HELP YOU, I insist on those 2 words because that is what we are supposed to do. Unfortunately they way you act make us think that that is not how you see things. So you can understand where I am heading, let me ask you a few simple questions:

  1. Why is it that kid come to school every day with homework not done and without even reading his resume?
  2. Why is it that you do not sign his weekly evaluation textbook? Do you even look at it?
  3. Why is it that you never attend the PTA meeting or the open door day? the only time I see you in school is during registration period or when they send word home to remind you that you still have school fees left to be paid. The other day I even greet you on the road Just to realize that you didn’t even recognize me. How would you? We have never been introduced.
  4. Why is it that your kid come to school on a monday with the hair not done?
  5. What are you waiting for to write his name and your phone number on the school uniform? Do you really care about him? Sometimes I do wonder.
  6. How come you spend the whole year without collecting the report cards? Aren’t you interested in seeing how your child is performing?

The best of all is that i even take the time, use my airtime to call you inviting you to come to school so that we can discuss ways to improve on your child results and make sure he is well brought up. But no, you do not show up, leaving everything on me.

OK, let me tell you something today, let me confess to you; I hope this time around you are listening carefully:

Dear parents we are in this together. Yes you brought him to the world, but now he is ours. Just like you I want him to be the best doctor, the best mechanic, the best teacher, the best architecte but I can- not achieve this alone;

I don’t do magic even if sometimes it seems like it. I need your help Just as you need mine. Together we make a great team. Alone it will never be complete, there will always be something missing. So please come to me, even if it is only to say « Hi, I’m happy our kid is doing good ».

I’m waiting for you and thank you for listening
